UPDATE: 8/7/2024/2:00pm -

SCCPSS to Keep Schools Closed on Thursday Due to Road Closure Concerns

Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools staff have conducted assessments of our schools and facilities. As of Wednesday, August 7, 2024, facility conditions are in good standing. While staff have made assessments and responded quickly to facility needs, roadways across Chatham County remain a concern for the safety of all staff and students.

Based on the most recent information, many roadways across the county remain closed or still have standing water that presents safety issues for our school buses and staff who are traveling from out of county. Staff have assessed that road closures are affecting approximately 25-percent of our bus routes causing a significant issue in transporting students to school. Road closures are also expected to impact some staff member’s ability to report to work. Up to 20% of District staff are commuting to our work sites from out of county.

As a result of these challenges, Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools will remain closed on Thursday, August 8, 2024. Students will not report to school and no remote learning is required.

School District staff will be expected to work remotely tomorrow as conditions allow. Staff who are unable to work remotely should contact your supervisor for makeup options. More information will be sent in an email directly to employees later this afternoon.

While all buildings and District facilities will be closed for in-person activities, certain staff who are designated by their immediate supervisor will be required to report to work during this closure based on work duty requirements.

District staff will reassess facility conditions and roadway accessibility tomorrow, Thursday, August 8, 2024, and will communicate with families no later than 2pm tomorrow regarding expectations for Friday. Please continue to monitor all email and phone communications from the district, along with SCCPSS.com and our social media accounts for the latest information.
